Handmade Natural Walnut Bowl
Wood / Species: Walnut (Juglans regia).
Walnut is a deciduous broadleaf tree which can grow to 35 ft. The bark is smoother and olive brown when young, developing fissures and fading to silver grey with age. Considered as food of the gods, and medicine for the people, Walnut was first introduced by the Romans who, like much of our native wildlife values its nuts.
Finish:
The wood after turning is sanded then sealed to add a layer of protection to the bowl that bind the loose fibres and give a solid foundation. Abrasive pastes are used to de-nib the wood fibres and create a fine surface.
The bowl is lastly finished with a gloss finishing wax which is a combination of carnauba and microcrystalline wax. The wax is applied on the lathe and buffed to a high gloss quality finish.
The finish is a natural product and food safe, it's non-toxic and you can eat food that's contacted it’s surface.
Care:
This item is NOT dishwasher safe and CANNOT be used either in a microwave or conventional oven.
General cleaning advice is to wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately. Do NOT submerge in water or use hot water to clean, this will remove the finish.
If the finish becomes dull after prolonged use, restore with a coat of wax (I recommend Hampshire Sheen Gloss Finishing Wax).
